HP7 re-read..

..because i was so busy trying to finish my online course these past weeks, i didnt get to visit the library and borrow some books. then i saw my HP7 and thought, why not? i was planning to re-read it anyway, so why not start now?

and so i did..

SPOILER ALERT for those who haven't read it yet.. (what?! really?! seriously?? you haven't read HP7??) hehehe..

i thought that because i've read it already that i will be able to read it without getting too emotional about it, you know, like i can now distance myself from it on an emotional level and read it without getting misty-eyed or sentimental.

i was wrong.

i was still on the first few pages when it hit me again like a ton of bricks, mad eye and hedwig, and only on the first few pages! how could you, JK??

and then there was bill & fleur's wedding where fred commented that on his wedding 'you can all wear what you like'.. it made me tear up again! oh, how could you, JK?.. :( it should have been percy! IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN PERCY!!! LOL!

and then there was kreacher's tale and it made me remember the last scenes in HP6 when dumbledore died and suddenly i was crying again, what the?? what's wrong with me? hahaha..

then there was the task of getting inside the ministry of magic, that according to them took 4 weeks to plan.. 4 weeks and it was still filled with a lot of loopholes! 4 weeks and it was still executed like they only decided to do it yesterday! maybe hermione didnt like reading spy novels (i would have recommended bourne identity, of course!) because she would have seen how weak their plan was.. anyway, they got the locket and got out only barely..

as a side note, what is it with harry and the never-ending instances of his where-have-i-heard-that-name-before? it's sooo irritating!! in HP1, he saw flamel's name on a card, but when he heard it again, he was all that-name's-familiar-where-have-i-heard/seen-that-before? and it's a regular occurrence, i mean, really! here in HP7 it was the wandmaker..

anyway..

then: ron left, harry & hermione visited godric's hollow, harry's wand broke, rita skeeter said that grindelwald was dumbledore's pal, a doe patronus led harry to gryffindor's sword, ron came back, they got caught, hermione was tortured, then harry asked for help.

and then, and then, there was dobby..

'and then with a little shudder the elf became quite still, and his eyes were nothing more than great, glassy orbs sprinkled with light from the stars they could not see.' - excerpt from HP7

the tears just started to flow.. i didnt even bother to try to stop it, it would have been a futile gesture.. dobby was such a special character that to pretend that his loss didn't bother me would have been mean. poor, poor dobby.. oh JK, that was such a hard blow you dealt! again, how could you? *sniff* i have predicted dobby's fate, but it sure didn't make it easier to accept.. and i remember how happy he was working for dumbledore in HP4.. and all those mismatched socks he loved to wear.. *sigh* thanks for a wonderful character in dobby, JK..

and then things have really started to pick up (finally!)

'hallows,' murmured dumbledore, 'not horcruxes. precisely.' -excerpt from HP7

i loved how JK showed dumbledore's flaws, and how he manned up to it..  his back story is great and it does tie in with the search for the deathly hallows, but a part of me, like harry, wishes that some of it was told in the previous books, explained or mentioned or hinted, or maybe it was, but i just missed it.. nway, the whole scene in harry's kings cross was a nice touch..

(we're nearing the end), i loved the montage of snape's memories from books 1 to 7, how his love for lily has always prevailed, and how he and dumbledore were always one step ahead of the others.. severus snape, master spy! hehe.. exceptional writing from JK! really!

THE BATTLE AT HOGWARTS

man, oh man! neville! the transformation was just, wow! i mean, i guess it only goes to show that you shouldn't really judge people by how the look.. like neville, he had all that courage inside him (which we were allowed to have a glimpse of in HP1 when he stood up to harry, hermione and ron) that finally was allowed to blossom. he's always had it in him, he was just never given the opportunity to show it because voldemort went after harry instead of going after him. but i think that it was more than fitting that he was the one who killed nagini, the last remaining horcrux. bravo! :)

fred, tonks and lupin.. such heavy losses, the good side had.  :(

THE SHOWDOWN

everybody knew this was bound to happen but what i didn't particularly like about it was the whole circling around and talking bit.. you see it in movies and i always get exasperated and say 'kung binaril mo na sana kanina pa, eh di natapos na..' i understand the whole 'kumukuha pa ng bwelo' thing, i do, i really do, and i know that distracting your opponent is an advantage, but prolonging the whole thing with talk, while circling around each other, and sizing each other up?? madness! hahaha.. what if voldemort understood what harry was telling him and decided to run for it? i mean, it's happened in movies, right? you know that scene were mortal enemies finally find themselves face to face and then biglang makakatakas pa yung kalaban yadda yadda yadda.. luckily in this case voldemort got hit by the bounced curse and died..

and speaking of voldemort dying, i think it was bit anticlimatic, or was it just me?..

and then, lastly, something i didnt really like, 19 years later.. how could you JK! hmmp! and double hmmp! i just dont think this was a fitting end to the series.. 19 years later?? cmon! really?? haaaay.. but still, an extraordinary series, nonetheless.

thank you JK for 7 wonderfully-written books! it was an adventure i am so glad i was taken on! :)

*Note: After reading this post, you might think, is something wrong with hermalyn? hahaha.. i do tend to treat literary characters like they're friends because, like i said in a previous post, when i read, i get pulled inside the story, i lose myself in it.. and in the HP series, i didnt feel that i was harry or hermione or ron, i've always felt that i was the 4th member of the gang, silent, observing, feeling and watching. and so, im with them on their adventures, their friends become my friends as well, and their experiences become my own.. so there! i dont know how else to say it, but that's just the way it is, LOL! :)
